David Chiu Defeats Gus Hansen in the World Poker Tour Championship 2008

With more than a 5-1 deficit, Full Tilt Poker Pro David Chiu finally claimed the championship against Gus Hansen, taking home the much coveted prize in the World Poker Tour Championship 2008. This is Chiu’s first WPT (World Poker Tour) title and he earned $3.4 million dollars in pot money. This was Chiu’s first win in over three years and the biggest prize pot he’s ever earned.

On the other hand, his opponent Gus Hansen was rewarded with nearly $1.7 million dollars, claiming a second win. During the start of the play, Hansen was unbeatable as he managed to edge out the first four of his five competitors with  just 22 hands of poker. The result of the series of wins earned Hansen 22.9 million chips against his fifth and final competitor’s win of 4.3 million stacks in chips.

It was a double hand 33 on Hansen as the two men shared for 45 more hands until it was time for Chiu to head on to the lead – in the hand of 78. The game play finished with two hands later when Chiu handed out his aces against Hansen’s two pairs.
